Hi friends,

We're nearing the end of our second week of fundraising. So far, 66 people have donated and we have raised almost 10% of our goal of $83,470. After an initial burst of enthusiasm, things have slowed a bit, but we have some plans brewing...

On Thursday last week, I had coffee with Katia Kelly, who pens the blog "Pardon Me for Asking," which is a chronicle of our neighborhood (Carroll Gardens). I was excited to meet Katia, as Larry and I have followed her blog for years and although I have been in communication with her via email, I had yet to meet her in person until last week. She's very involved and invested in our neighborhood community and I was hopeful that she would be willing to help us get the word out about Foss Standing Tall. I told her about Foss and why we want to send him to ST, and she graciously offered to write a blog entry about our efforts. When it is complete, I will post a link to it here.

I'm also in the process of arranging a mini-fundraiser at my new home-away-from-home, 16 Handles, which is a self-serve frozen yogurt place a few blocks from our apartment. I noticed a sign there the other day that read, "Ask Us about Fundraising Opportunities," so I did. The manager explained that we can choose any two-hour period we want and the store will donate 16% of all of their proceeds from within that period to us. I was talking to him at about 4:00 on a Tuesday afternoon and the place was packed, so I'd like to make arrangements for it to take place from 3:00 until 5:00 on a weekday. Details to follow.

Also, I had some postcards printed with basic information about our mission, so please let me know if you have a bulletin board at work or in a local coffee shop (or anywhere else!) where you could pin one or two up. I'm going to put one in our building's laundry room, at Henry's school, at his former preschool, etc. I'd be happy to mail you some if you can think of a good spot(s) for them.

Finally, I just wanted to mention that we have several copies of a DVD that Standing Tall had made to illustrate their approach to educating kids with multiple disabilities. If you are on the fence about donating or helping us to attract donors, I can send you one (it's only about 6 minutes long) -- just let me know!

Thank you so much for your encouragement, your generosity and your help! Keep it coming :)

xo,
molly
